![]() ![]() But we decided we wanted a bigger mattress so after all the hassle of trying to find a mattress in a store for months, then I decided to search more companies online and order another one because at least if you get one from a company that lets you return it with a 100 night trial period then you aren't stuck with a limited store selection with an exchange only. ![]() So we ended up sleeping on it a few more months til we found another mattress and it actually got softer and more comfortable as time went on. At this point we still had the Casper Original as we couldn't find a place to donate it to in a small town and they just said to do whatever with it and they refunded it because it was defective being too short. The worst part of buying at the store was they would not let me do a return, only an exchange and we ended up doing multiple exchanges partly because 3 mattresses had measurement issues with them being too short and only one was good. For my last exchange we ended up getting a mattress for my inlaws for their guest room because they weren't picky and I was just done with it. It seemed like eveything was either too firm or too soft. But I still had my last exchange with Sleep Country so I went back in total over 10 times trying other mattresses and nothing else felt good to me as I wanted a medium memory foam mattress but they were limited in their selection. It got to the point of me being afraid to do another exchange and getting stuck with something I didn't like again so I bought a Casper Original from their own store and it felt too firm to sleep on and I was waking up with numbness in my arms and it was the wrong measurements, too short by a couple inches lengthwise and widthwise so then we started a return on it. Then I exchanged it for a Casper Nova hybrid which felt super comfortable in the store but sleeping on it, it felt way too soft, gave me back pain and was incredibly hot. Then I exchanged it for a spring mattress with foam on top that also felt comfortable in the store but ended up being too firm again to sleep on. So I got a Simba hybrid mattress as it felt good in the store but sleeping on it at home I realized it felt too soft and felt like my hips were sinking into a hole. I was trying to find the softest one that felt comfortable to avoid anything too firm again. So then I decided to go to a store, Sleep Country (as we are in Canada) and try all their mattresses before I bought another one. Then I ordered a Juno mattress thinking it would be softer but it was also too firm. Then I got a Purple mattress from someone selling it that I tried at their house that felt comfortable but sleeping on it it was also too firm for side sleeping. I first ordered a latex mattress without knowing anything about what kind of mattress I should get being a light weight side sleeper and it was far too firm. I agree you should get an idea of what type of mattress you think you would feel most comfortable on but ultimately the determining factors in the type of mattress you choose should mainly be based on your weight, sleep position and pain. I have done both, trying mattresses at a store and ordering and actually found my experience with the store ones was worse than ordering one. I understand what you are saying about trying them out first to see what feels comfortable or not but it feels very different sleeping on a mattress at night versus trying one for a short time in a store. Just my word of advice to you all, good luck friends! I can gladly say I did find my mattress after going into the store and the choice was so easy being able to hop back and forth between all the different brands and to truly feel what each mattress is like. If you need to make a long drive or even make a vacation to a place that has a big retailer with all the mattresses you like please do it. My point being is do not for the love of god buy a mattress without trying it out first, you are just asking for disappointment. Tried them all from winkbed, saatva, ghosted, Brooklyn bedding, helix, nectar, Nolah, dream cloud, puffy, purple, tempurpedic, Casper, Bear…. Of all these mattresses, not one of of my top five picks were even considered after lying down on them. Now let me tell you I had a list going into this store from all my research. You know what I did? I found giant retailer that carry’s almost every bed-in-box mattress talked about on here in every firmness type (Sleep Sherpa is the store name if your wondering). I Ordered a bed-in-box mattress and now have to return it because it isn’t what I thought it was going to be like. ![]() I was like all of you… sifting through endless Reddit threads, articles, YouTube videos, mattress review websites. ![]()
